Mike Murphy had an incredible playing career with the Ottawa Gee-Gees from 1974-1976, which included being a part of the 1975 Vanier Cup champion team.
The Ottawa Rough Riders picked him up in the 1977 CFL draft, where he went on to rush for 871 yards and catch 48 passes for an added 483 yards in his first year. These outstanding numbers won him the Frank. M Gibson Trophy for top rookie in the CFL East. During his four seasons with the Rough Riders Murphy rushed for a total of 1983 yards, caught 163 passes for 1634 yards, and scored ten touchdowns.
