The Gee-Gees continue to have a stand-out season and remain undefeated in league play after another 3-0 sweep against the Guelph Gryphons in their home opener this past Saturday. They are currently 5-0 in regular season action, while boasting a 16-2 overall league and exhibition record (all CIS competition).
The last time the Gee-Gees were ranked in the national top five was during the 1984-85 season.
The Gee-Gees' powerful offensive attack and strong service are without a doubt some key ingredients in their current success, as they lead the CIS in both points earned per set (17.8) and aces per set (3.41).
In addition, several Gee-Gees are among the top in the nation in terms of individual statistics. Fourth-year setter Christina Grail leads the nation in assists per set with 10.56, while third-year left side/right side hitter Karina Krueger Schwanke leads the nation in total points earned per set with 5.2.
On the defensive side, third-year Kelsie English is seventh in Canada in stuff blocks per set with 1.31, while starting libero Stephanie Theiler is 15th in the nation in digs per set with 3.62.
The Gee-Gees will be back at Montpetit Hall this Saturday, November 10, at 2:00 p.m. to take on the Brock Badgers.
