SEASON PREVIEW: Women’s soccer back on the field following third consecutive OUA Championship
The Gee-Gees women's soccer is set to kick off the 2025 regular season following an incredible third consecutive OUA Championship performance in 2024. The team closed out 2024 with U SPORTS bronze medals and will look to top their exceptional season despite the loss of notable veterans.
Ottawa will be without the three-time OUA East Player of the Year and 2022 U SPORTS Player of the Year, Cassandra Provost. The program's career goals leader leaves the Gee-Gees after a historic career.
Other notable departures include Jenna Matsukubo and Allana Oriente, a pair of speedy threats in the attacking space. OUA Second Team All-Star goaltender, Cassidy Joslin, closed out her Gee-Gees career with heroic moments throughout the playoffs. Veteran midfielder, Katie Brzozowski, also says goodbye to the Gee-Gees after a solid career.
Despite these departures, the Gee-Gees squad returns an All-Star core in Eva Bouity, Maya Smith, and Nibo Dlamini. Rosalie Cote and Elianne Gervais return as reliable pillars of the midfield, and Ava Donohue, Sabrina Mangiaracina, and Celina Bensebaa are all candidates for a breakout season.
Soumaya Bouak is set for a headlining return to the Gee-Gees lineup after spending two seasons playing with Mazatlán F.C. in Mexico's top league. Bouak was a member of the 2019 FISU University World Cup championship team and was a 2022 OUA East Second Team All-Star.
Ottawa hits the field on Aug. 30 against Trent before making their way to Ontario Tech the next day to begin the 2025 season. The Gee-Gees are on home turf for the first time this season as they host the Nipissing Lakers, a rematch of the OUA Championship game.
Gee-Gees games can be watched on OUA.tv and tickets for home games can be purchased at tickets.geegees.ca
