NEWS: Women’s soccer hires Chelsea Currie as interim Assistant Coach
The University of Ottawa women's soccer team is happy to welcome Chelsea Currie as the program's interim assistant coach.
"I'm excited to be in an environment where the level of competition is so high," Currie said. "It's a really exciting time for women's soccer in Canada, and the Gee-Gees are a very well-respected program."
Currie joins the Gee-Gees after 13 years of coaching from Nova Scotia, Toronto, and Ottawa. She currently is a head coach at West Ottawa Soccer Club and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant.
In addition to a wealth of coaching experience, Currie brings experience as a student-athlete. From 2012-2016, she was a member of the Cape Breton University varsity soccer team.
"I have a lot of love and energy for the game," Currie said. "Student-athletes have an exceptional amount of work on their plates… I hope to bring an energy on and off the pitch that encourages players to be creative, take risks, and discover the height of their potential, whatever that may look like for each of them."
Outside of soccer, Currie partakes in a list of activities to get her outdoors and push her comfort zone.
The Gee-Gees women's soccer team is set to kick off the season on August 30th at Trent. The team will be on home turf for their home opener against Nipissing on September 6th.
