NEWS: Women’s rugby hires Emily Tuttosi as full-time Assistant Coach
The University of Ottawa women's rugby team is excited to welcome Emily Tuttosi as the program's new full-time assistant coach.
"There is a lovely atmosphere around the University of Ottawa," Tuttosi said. "I am really excited to work with Jenn Russell, we're really excited for where this program can grow. We're excited to put our heads together, our passion, and creativity."
From Souris, Man., Tuttosi returns to Canada after six years playing for the Exeter Chiefs in England. She has represented Team Canada at various levels since making her international debut in 2018, a hat-trick performance against Japan at the 2021 World Cup, and eventually a silver medal at the 2025 World Cup.
Tuttosi is not a stranger to U SPORTS. She competed for the Calgary Dinos for five seasons, earning four Canada West All-Star recognitions and being named an All-Canadian in 2016.
"I've been able to be playing rugby in England for the last eight years and alongside that I've been coaching for academies, universities and in the community here," Tuttosi said. "I felt a strong pull to coach Canadian athletes, especially at the U SPORTS level. I am excited to be a part of Canadian rugby again."
Tuttosi joins Gee-Gees head coach, Jennifer Russell, who was hired in February after the departure of Jack Hanratty.
"I am thrilled to have Emily join our coaching team. Her on field resume speaks for itself, however what struck me most is her commitment to ensuring we grow the game for women in our country, and her ability to quickly connect and bring high level technique and tactics to athletes in an approachable and charismatic way," Russell said.
"To sustain the incredible momentum of the women's game and empower our Gee-Gees as the next generation, it's crucial they see women excelling on the field, and women leading our game tactically off the field as coaches, preparing them to be impactful leaders in all aspects of life."
The Gee-Gees are set to start the RSEQ regular season on August 29 as they hit the road to take on the Montreal Carabins. September 6 marks the team's home opener as they welcome the Sherbrooke Vert et Or to Matt Anthony Field. Their six-game regular season concludes on October 10 with a rivalry battle against the Laval Rouge et Or.
