SEASON PREVIEW: Women’s rugby takes on Bishops in first game of the Jack Hanratty Era
The Gee-Gees women's rugby team are coming off a season filled with ups and down, going undefeated in the RSEQ regular season before falling to their rivals, Laval, then closing out the season finishing fourth at the U SPORTS National Championship tournament.
The transition between 2024 and 2025 marks a changing of the guard as Jack Hanratty assumes the role of head coach from 2024 U SPORTS Coach of the Year, Duncan McNaughton. Hanratty joins the Gee-Gees program after leading Canada's women's rugby team to a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
McNaughton's departure is paired with the end of some incredible Gee-Gees careers in the 2024 U SPORTS Player of the Year, Aurora Bowie, three-time U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian, Ketsia Kamba, and First Team All-Canadian and national team prospect, Alysia Comtois. The team also says goodbye to their captain, Tylo Borsboom.
Graduations of highly decorated veterans in Anna Dodge, Emma Wade, Leigha Stiles, Rachel Steel, Victoria Hough, and scrumhalf, Julia Latremouille are bittersweet for the program.
An exciting, big group of high level rookies will be suited up in Garnet and Grey for the first time, but eyes will be on Ngozi Mosindi and Quynh-Ni Au, captains of the Gee-Gees squad, to see how they lead a fresh Ottawa team into the 2025 season.
Ottawa starts the 2025 regular season with a trip to Bishop's University on Aug. 31st, a team they have only dominant performances over. The team play their first game on Matt Anthony Field on Sep. 13 when they welcome the Concordia Stingers.
The next week, a rematch of the past seven RSEQ championship games. Last season, the Gee-Gees bested Laval during the regular season but lost in the RSEQ Championship game.
The Gee-Gees wrap up regular season play by hosting their crosstown rivals, the Carleton Ravens, on Oct. 3rd.
Gee-Gees regular season games will be streamed on YouTube. For tickets to all Gee-Gees home games, visit tickets.geegees.ca.
