Ottawa will also host the RSEQ Final for the third year running, seeking to raise the banner for the third time. Concordia won its semifinal match on Saturday against the Laval Rouge et Or, and will return to Matt Anthony Field for a rematch of the 2015 conference final. That game will take place on Friday, October 28 with the time to be confirmed.
Saturday's semifinal game was highlighted by many big defensive plays from both sides of the field early on in the match with inside centre Chanelle Fortin setting the bar with a wind-breaker on Montreal's scrum-half which lead to a turnover mid-way through the first half. The Carabins were unable to solve the Gee-Gees defence as the end of the first half was spent mostly in the home team's zone. Ottawa led 14-0 at half time.
The second half started with weather conditions getting worst as the chilly temperature and the rain were making themselves more persistent, this however never stopped Jen Boyd's from keeping to the gameplan and letting the forwards run loose with some very nice runs from props Alex Ellis who was able to give her team an energy boost with a very nice try from a crash ball.
''No matter the weather conditions we kept to our plan and I'm very happy with the girls' effort this game even with the team not being 100 per cent healthy,'' said Ottawa head coach Jen Boyd about today's results.
RSEQ All-Star Elisabeth Boudreault also made quality runs for Ottawa, including a second effort to finish off a sideline run for a try. Simone Savary and Fortin were the other try-scorers for Ottawa, with Emma Sandstrom converting three tires. Montreal's points came late in the match after Ottawa had established a 26-0 lead.
