RECAP: Gee-Gees advance to OUA semifinal with reverse sweep over the Varsity Blues
The University of Ottawa women's hockey team advance to the OUA semifinal after an exciting series win over the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Game 1: 6-3 loss at Toronto
The Gee-Gees headed to Toronto to take on the reigning U SPORTS bronze medalists for the opening game of the OUA quarterfinal. Ottawa struck first with a powerplay goal by Alexa Pongo, but Toronto took control of the battle to claim game one.
Game 2: 2-1 win vs Toronto
Back on home ice, the Gee-Gees were facing elimination. Naomi Morin was first on the board, finding an opening on the powerplay. Toronto evened the score during the second, setting up an exciting third period. Morin found the mesh in the opening moments of the third and the Gee-Gees held that lead right to the end, forcing one last game.
Game 3: 3-1 win vs Toronto
With one meeting, both the Gee-Gees and Varsity Blues came out with unmatched energy. A scoreless opening frame was followed by a strong powerplay goal from the Varsity Blues. Heading into the third period with a goal to make up, Ottawa's captain, Beatrice Bilodeau, took control of the game, logging a pair of goals to gain control and advance the Gee-Gees to the semifinal round.
