NEWS: Vincenzo Sljuka named Head Coach of Gee-Gees Swimming
After a season as the Gee-Gees Swimming program's interim Head Coach following Dave Heinbuch's retirement, Vincenzo Sljuka has been hired as the team's Head Coach beginning on April 27.
"It's a true honour to be named Head Coach of the swimming program," Slujka said. "I'm excited to continue building a positive, team‑driven environment where every athlete can grow and thrive both in and out of the pool."
Slujka, who has worked with the team as Associate Head Coach since 2023 and as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator since 2021, was a student-athlete on the team for five seasons.
"Vince has been a strong advocate for his student-athletes, elevating both support and resources, and his commitment to a safe, supportive, high-performance culture will drive continued success," said Danika Smith, the Gee-Gees Associate Director, Varsity Sports at uOttawa Recreation and Varsity Sports (RVS), "I'm excited to work alongside him as we build on this momentum."
"Our philosophy is focused on helping our swimmers reach their full potential through daily habits, shared commitment, and a collective pursuit of excellence," Sljuka said. "Through this approach, we believe we will be highly competitive on the national stage."
During the 2025-26 season, the Gee-Gees men's and women's squads both finished second at the RSEQ Championship meet. 24 swimmers qualified for the U SPORTS national championship, where two swimmers earned medals and the men's and women's teams both finished sixth overall.
"I couldn't be more excited to announce Vincenzo as the next head coach of the Gee-Gees swim program," said Smith, "After an incredibly successful season, it's clear he's the right leader to take this team to the next level."
