NEWS : Chenier and Stratis selected as OUA East All-Stars, Giroux to All-Rookie Team
Three members of the Gee-Gees men's hockey team were recognized as OUA announced its major award winners and conference All-Star teams for 2024-25 on Thursday.
Gee-Gees veterans Bradley Chenier and Peter Stratis were named to the OUA East Second Team of All-Stars while first-year forward Zach Giroux earned a place on the conference All-Rookie Team.
Bradley Chenier was Ottawa's leading goal-scorer this season and he established career highs in goals and total points in his fourth year in Garnet and Grey. The forward's 13 goals in the regular season tied for 11th in OUA and he added seven assists for his first 20-point OUA season.
A Health Sciences student from Sudbury, Chenier lit the lamp twice on the power play and recorded two game-winning goals in the regular season before adding another game-winner in game two of the OUA First Round playoffs. This is Chenier's first OUA All-Star recognition.
Peter Stratis also recorded career best statistics this season with seven goals and 15 assists from the blueline. The fourth-year defenceman's points total was fourth highest on the Gee-Gees this season and he was an important goal-scoring threat on the powerplay, recording four goals with the man advantage.
This is also the first OUA recognition for Stratis, an Education student from Toronto, Ont.
Zach Giroux scored ten goals and 15 assists in his first campaign with uOttawa. He had an eight-game point streak from November 14 to Jan 9, including a four-game goal scoring streak. Giroux, an Interdisciplinary Studies student from Sudbury, recorded four power play goals.
The Gee-Gees as a team ranked tied for second in OUA with a 24.1 per cent powerplay efficiency and were fifth in the conference in goals per game at 3.57. Ottawa was also strong on the penalty kill, ranking fourth in OUA with a 85.6 per cent success rate. The team recorded a 19-6-3-0 record and placed third in OUA East regular season standings with 41 points.
Ottawa hosts the BioSteel 2025 University Cup, the national championship tournament for U SPORTS men's hockey, March 20-23 at TD Place. Ottawa, as hosts, will compete in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 20.
