RECAP: Ottawa downs Lakehead at the Thunderdome
The U SPORTS seventh-ranked Gee-Gees men's basketball team did something no other team has done this season, beat the 10th ranked Lakehead at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse. In an impressive effort to resume the regular season for the winter semester, Ottawa earned an 81-59 win over the Thunderwolves.
The 'Thunderdome' has long been one of the hardest places to play in the OUA, and this year is no exception. Prior to the win, Lakehead was a perfect 7-0 this season on their home court.
In a well-balanced outing, the Gee-Gees hit 11 three-pointers and clamped down on defence to log a key win over a Top 10 foe. Ottawa was bolstered by an outstanding 33-point effort from the team's bench.
In his first regular season game of the season after returning from injury, Khalifa Koulamallah impressed in leading the bench unit, shooting 4-8 from the field and hitting three three-pointers for a 13-point outing in 11 minutes of action.
Ankit Choudhary led the way in the win with 15 points and four rebounds, Owen Kenney had 13 points off the bench as well, while Jacques-Mélaine Guemeta had 10 points. Dragan Stajic put together his usual outstanding all-around effort, with eight points seven rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Up next, the Gee-Gees will take to the road again for matchups with division foes in Laurentian (7-6) and Nipissing (5-8) on Friday and Saturday night. Both games will tip-off at 8 p.m. and be available to watch live on OUA.tv
