PREVIEW: Gee-Gees take to Toronto for matchup at York
After a season opening loss to the nationally second-ranked Western Mustangs, the Gee-Gees football team will be wading into the unknown as they visit the York Lions in week two of the young OUA season.
As non-combatants in 2023, the teams are wholly unfamiliar with each other. The Lions have a brand-new coaching staff under first-year head coach Dexter Janke, 60 new players on the roster, and had a week one bye. For more in-depth information on the new-look Lions, read their season preview.
For the Gee-Gees, last weekend's matchup against the Mustangs was a valuable litmus test against the top of the conference. Whether it was the defence holding strong against a potent Western attack, the offensive line not conceding a sack and springing Charles Asselin to 119 rushing yards while showing the all-around weapon he is, the Gee-Gees had much to learn from the positives and negatives of their debut.
As we turn the page to week two, look for some familiar faces to return to action for the Gee-Gees as they set their sights on pulling their record even to start the year.
All questions will be answered on Saturday as kickoff from York Lions Stadium is set for 1 p.m. with the game streaming live on OUA.tv. Stay tuned to @geegeesfootball on X and Instagram for in-game updates.
