It was hockey night in the nation's capital as the Gee-Gees made the short trip down the Ottawa Canal for a visit with the Carleton Ravens. Fans were treated to a great hockey game as the Gee-Gees would storm back in the third to tie it up, and then seal the victory only fifteen seconds into overtime.
Third-year forward Fannie Desforges (Fournier, Ont.) had two goals, including the overtime winner, while rookie defensemen Valérie Watson (St-Hyacinthe, Qué.) assisted on all three of uOttawa's goals.
Still, it was rookie goaltender Stéphanie Mercier (Smooth Rock Falls, Ont.) who stole the show with 34 saves. Mercier kept the game within reach for the Gee-Gees as Carleton was applying some serious pressure until the Gee-Gees could tie it up midway through the third period.
"It was a big win for us. The girls never gave up, and we stole two big points here tonight," said head coach Yanick Evola.
The Gee-Gees are back on the ice tomorrow as they host the No. 1 McGill Martlets at the Minto Sports Complex with the puck is set to drop at 2:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasted live at www.ssncanada.ca
