Calvin Epistola was recognized as a First Team All-Canadian as part of the U SPORTS All-Canadian Awards gala in Ottawa on March 4 at the Canadian Museum of History. The fifth-year point guard from Toronto led the Gee-Gees throughout the 2019-20 season and becomes the seventh player in Gee-Gees men's basketball history to be named to the All-Canadian team.
Epistola posted career highs in points, assists, and steals this season as he led the Gee-Gees to an 18-4 regular season record and an appearance in the OUA semifinals. His 19.0 points per game included three 30-point games and his career high of 32 points came on Nov. 17 at Algoma.
Notably, the Gee-Gees captain led the highest pace offence in team history since 1979 as the offence attempted 72.4 field goals per game and Epistola set an individual record for field goals attempted with 343 in the regular season (15.6 per game), making 44.9 per cent. The floor general recorded 3.9 assists per game.
On the defensive end, Epistola ranked third in OUA with 55 steals in the regular season (a career high of 2.5 per game). He also pulled down 3.8 rebounds per game.
Overall, Epistola netted 418 points this regular season, making him one of five Gee-Gees in team history to surpass the four hundred mark. His career points total of 1071 ranks him ninth all-time in program history.
