OTTAWA GAME NOTES

  • Major Stat Leaders
  • Fresh from a three-game winning campaign at the Classique Olga Hrycak at UQAM over the holiday break, the Gee-Gees are primed for a big start to the new decade. Facing off against ninth-ranked Laurentian will be a great test for the team as they prepare for the run to nationals.
  • Ottawa returns forward Guillaume Pépin, the team's leading scorer from last season in a OUA Rookie of the Year campaign. Pépin returned from injury to play all three games in the UQAM tournament. The Montreal native had a solid 13-point, six-rebound performance against McGill as he gears back up for the second half of the season.
  • Going toe-to-toe with two-time National Player of the Year Kadre Gray, Ottawa's Calvin Epistola will look to continue to build his resume for OUA MVP and potentially the Mike Moser Memorial Trophy at the national level. In the first matchup this season, Epistola bested Gray by leading his team to the win on a 19-point, eight-rebound effort, dispite Gray's massive offensive output in the game.
  • Second-year guard Kevin Civil has taken a leap forward this season, and after putting up 19 points against both Laurentian and Nipissing in November, he will be a player to watch for the Gee-Gees this weekend.

LAURENTIAN GAME NOTES

  • Major Stat Leaders
    • Points (per game): Kadre Gray – 24.0 pts.
    • Assists (per game): Kadre Gray – 6.7 ast.

    • Field-goal percentage: Joseph Hlady – 47.1 per cent
    • Three-point percentage: Haroun Mohamed – 37.9 per cent
  • The Voyageurs have once again quietly moved their way through the OUA schedule to establish themselves as one of the best teams in the nation with an 8-3 record.
  • Laurentian has defeated Ottawa one time in each of the last two seasons. Last year, it was on a January trip to Sudbury that they downed the Gee-Gees, something they will hope to replicate again this weekend.
  • Gray logged his second highest scoring performance of the regular season against the Gee-Gees in November. With 38 points and nine rebounds in the last meeting, he will hope to have the same success against Ottawa this time around.

NIPISSING GAME NOTES

  • Major Stat Leaders
  • Nipissing logged a strong performance against the Gee-Gees in their last matchup, a key was in the play of Justin Shaver, who posted 27 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
  • The three-point shooting of Shandon Ashitei will be essential for the Lakers, sitting fifth in the OUA in three-point percentage, Ashitei struggled in November against the Gee-Gees scoring only two points.
  • As a team, the Lakers are the third best three-point shooting team in the conference, averaging 33.5 per cent.
