This past week at the annual East-West Bowl three Gee-Gees football standouts showcased their speed, athleticism and overall football talent. Kalem Beaver represented uOttawa on the offensive side of the ball, while Cody Cranston and Jamie Harry locked things down on defence.
Throughout the week top players from across the country going into their first draft eligible year participated in practices, meetings, a combine and finally a game between the East and West all-star teams.
Beaver highlighted the combine posting the top 40-yard dash time at 4.62 seconds. Beaver later helped the East team to capture its first three points of the game by putting them in field goal position after a 51-yard punt return. The Dartmouth, Nova Scotia native also had one reception for 13 yards, and a tackle.
Harry completed four tackles, third overall from East players, and broke up one pass. Cranston finished the day with two tackles.
All three collectively came to the same conclusion that this game is where you need to be if you want to be one of the best in the country. They also credited Head Coach Jamie Barresi for how well prepared they were for the testing and football they'd be exposed to.
"The experience was awesome, met a lot of cool guys, learned some new techniques from different coaches," said Harry. "It was so much our rooms were right across from each other and we hung out all the time. I knew them pretty well before but now we've created an even closer bond."
