The Gee-Gees Football Program and the 1881 Football Alumni Association are proud to announce that Canadian Football Hall of Fame quarterback and Super Bowl Champion coach Tom Clements will be the keynote speaker at the 2018 Touchdown Dinner.
The Touchdown Dinner, which celebrates the Gee-Gees Football Hall of Fame inductions and raises money for the uOttawa Football Program, will be held at the National Arts Centre on Saturday April 28, 2018. Tickets are on sale and event information is available here.
A two-time Grey Cup Champion, Clements is an Ottawa Rough Riders great. After a Rookie of the Year campaign in 1975 he led the team to its 1976 Grey Cup which included his remarkable game-winning completion to Tony Gabriel. His twelve-year career in the CFL included time in Hamilton where he was a two-time CFL All-Star, and his playing career ended with four seasons in Winnipeg where he earned the 1987 CFL Most Outstanding Player award. He was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 1994.
Gee-Gees alumni Jeff Avery, Tim Berryman, Doug Falconer, and Mike Murphy were team mates of Clements during his 1975-1978 seasons in Ottawa with the Rough Riders. In his time with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, the quarterback suited up alongside Linden Davidson, Rocky DiPietro, Bill Harrison,Neil Lumsden, and Alan Moffat, who is one of the 2018 Inductees to the Gee-Gees Hall of Fame.
Clements began his coaching career at his alma mater, Notre Dame, and made the jump to the NFL in 1997. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers when they won Super Bowl XLV in 2011.
In addition to giving the keynote speech at the Touchdown Dinner, Clements has been invited to address the Gee-Gees team and join the 1881 Football Alumni Association at its annual general meeting.
The inductees for the Gee-Gees Hall of Fame are Al Moffat, Steve Alexandre, Marcel Bellefeuille, Josh Sacobie, and the 1965 Team.
