Bio

Spencer Murdock has served as Senior Specialist, Communications and Marketing for the Gee-Gees since 2024, overseeing all communications, marketing, and digital media operations for Recreation and Varsity Sports.

Murdock first joined the University of Ottawa’s athletic department as a student Sports Information Assistant in the 2016-17 season, before a beginning in a full-time capacity at the start of the 2017 season.

In 2018, Murdock moved into the role of Sports Information and Digital Media Officer, overseeing the Gee-Gees sports communications, social media, and photography/videography efforts.

During his tenure, Murdock has served as the host Sports Information Director of four National Championships (2018 Women’s Soccer, 2019 Women’s Rugby, 2020 Men’s and Women’s Basketball) and two more upcoming in the 2024-25 season.

In his time at Ottawa, he has covered two Gee-Gees national titles (Women’s Rugby ’17, Women’s Soccer ’18), 11 conference championships, and numerous national medals.

The Gee-Gees communications team has been awarded three times at the conference level with the OUA CHAMP Awards for excellence in marketing and promotions. Winning Outstanding Promotional Video (2019-20), Best Social Media Account (2022-23), and Best Photo (2023-24).

Prior to his time working with Ottawa, Murdock served as Sports Editor of The Fulcrum, the University of Ottawa’s student newspaper, where he began covering the Gee-Gees in the 2013-14 season.

Murdock is a native of Port Perry, ON and earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in History and Communication from University of Ottawa in 2017.
