The Gee-Gees track and field team will send a contingent of student-athletes to the Vert et Or Invitational this Saturday at the University of Sherbrooke. As the first event of 2020, it is a chance to get back in competition form and for younger team members to earn some extra competition experience before a busy winter semester.
"This will be the first opportunity for many of the athletes to line up against U SPORTS competition," says Gee-Gees head coach Richard Johnston, noting the mostly first and second-year team members will travel this week, alongside a few team veterans to see where they stand after the holiday break.
The performances from this weekend will be particularly of note on the men's side, where a young team features talent amongst its sophomore class. On the women's side, the middle distances are the team's strength but only a few competitors will travel this weekend.
Saturday's events begin at 10 a.m. and are set to conclude at 5 p.m.
The Gee-Gees will be at home next weekend for one of two events in Ottawa this year, the uOttawa National Winter Invitational at the Louis-Riel Dome on Saturday.
