Three Gee-Gees football players have been selected for the 2019 U SPORTS East-West Bowl held at Carleton University from May 7-11. The annual event which includes a combine in front of CFL scouts and coaches and concludes with a game between the two teams, features the top university football talent who are entering their Canadian Football League draft year.
After missing the 2017 season, Stephen returned to his OUA All-Rookie form in 2019. The Toronto native anchored a much improved defensive line for the Garnet and Grey. At 6-1, 307 lbs., Stephen is one of the most dangerous defensive tackles in the OUA, using his size and power to stuff the run and rush the opposing quarterback. In 2018, Stephen finished the season with 15 solo tackles, 7 assisted tackles, 2.5 quarterback sacks, and 4 tackles for loss.
Davis followed up a breakout season in 2017 with another stellar season in 2018, establishing himself as one of the premier defensive ends in the OUA. The Oshawa, Ont. native terrorized offences backfields on a weekly basis, using his speed and power to get pressure off of the edge. Davis finished tied for the seventh in the OUA sack race this season finishing with 4, while also tallying 16.5 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 2 pass breakups in only 6 games played.
Re-entering into the lineup in week three last season, Douglas was a stalwart at defensive back for the Gee-Gees. Spending time at both the strong and weak side halfback, he finished the season with 28 total tackles and one pass breakup. The Ingleside, Ont. native also continued to play a significant role on various special teams units throughout the season. Douglas is the fifth member of the Gee-Gees defensive backfield in the past four years to be selected for the East-West Bowl, each of which having been selected in the CFL Draft the following May.
