Synchronized Swimming

The Gee-Gees Synchro Club has been student run under the Competitive Sports Clubs (CSC) program at the University of Ottawa since September 2003. In its first year, the club consisted of one team (8 swimmers and 2 alternates), one novice swimmer and two student-coaches. Since then, the club has continued to grow and mature. This past season, the synchro team consisted of 29 swimmers. As of the 2017-2018 season, the club had one competitive team, two novice teams, a competitive solo as well as a competitive duet competing.

The club is a member of the Canadian University Synchronized Swimming League (CUSSL) that was formed in 2001. This league contains 19 Universities ranging from the West all the way to the East. All Universities who would like to compete nationally with their synchro team are members of CUSSL. This league holds 3 competitions annually: Invitationals, Easterns/Westerns, as well as Nationals. All competition events include both the competitive and novice categories and each category holds a duet, solo, team and combo event. This club’s status within the league has continued to grow throughout the years. The Garnet team has placed first at Nationals for the past 2 years, bringing home the John Drake Trophy!

The season starts the first week of September, with the beginning of classes, and runs until early April. An Annual Information Night is always held on the first Sunday after the Labor Day Long Weekend, and all interested swimmers are invited to participate! The try-out period is short; we divide teams based on skill, experience, and technique. However, there is a spot for anyone who would like to swim with the club, no matter what! The competitive season then continues until mid-February. Afterwards, an end-of-season Water show is held by the club to showcase our routines (and a few new ones!) from the past year.

If you would like to join, or would just like more information, please email us. Experience is not required (as we have a large developing novice program). We are always looking for new swimmers and coaches!
