Nordic Skiing

Eligibility Certificate

uOttawa Nordiq is a new Competitive Club excited about providing cross country skiers at the University of Ottawa with an opportunity to keep skiing. The Ottawa-Gatineau area is one of the best places in Canada to ski competitively and go to school, thanks to Ottawa’s snowy winters, uOttawa’s proximity to some of the nation’s finest trails and amazing dryland training locations. The ski community is large and passionate and includes four large clubs and a strong recreational base.

Competition. Athletes can choose a race schedule that suits their goals and academic program. The region’s impressive event calendar allows busy student-athletes to compete without excessive travel, time, and expense. We will also consider racing in nearby Ontario Cup, Quebec Cup, and NorAm events. In 2019, key events will be the Ontario University Athletics Nordic Ski championships (the most competitive collegiate championship in Canada), and the Haywood Ski Nationals at Nakkertok Nordic, our primary training location, just 13 km from uOttawa campus.

Training & Team Organization. While volunteer coaches help coordinate workouts, racing, and general organization, uOttawa Nordiq athletes play key leadership roles and guide the direction of the team. We want training and racing with the team to be a fun, accessible, and ultimately rewarding experience: our team fee is low, we have team supporters and sponsors to help subsidize costs, and we are actively pursuing more support.

We have a diverse group of athletes ranging from former high school and club skiers to NorAm circuit competitors. Team endurance sport can bring together a variety of abilities, ambitions, backgrounds . . . and this can enrich the student experience for everyone.

If you enjoy nordic skiing and want to get out on the trails with uOttawa training partners, please join us!
