Entering its 27th year, the University of Ottawa competitive dance team provides advanced dancers a way of continuing to dance and compete through their post-secondary education. The dance team specializes in contemporary, jazz, and hip-hop, but provides dancers opportunities to focus on other styles such as tap and ballet. The team rehearses 4-6 hours a week in preparation for performances and competitions, and to build the strong bond and team spirit that the Gee-Gees dance team is known for.
The team participates in two university dance competitions every spring, competing against university dance teams from all over Canada, and puts on an annual year-end showcase. The dance team has won multiple overall awards for solos, groups, judges choice, and choreography. For the past two years, the Gee-Gees dance team has also performed in Dancers Give Back Ottawa alongside talented dance studios in Ottawa in order to raise money for multiple charities such as the Youth Services Bureau and Do it for Daron.
